Valentine’s Day at Eco

It’s Valentine’s Day! And what could be more romantic than spending the day of love in Italy, the home of classic characters like Romeo and Juliet, one of the most iconic couples in history?

Italy is considered the most romantic country in the world, thanks to its cities Roma, Florence, Verona, and of course, Venice, the city of lovers, which is considered a more than magical location.

But how did this connection between Italy and romance come about?

Italy: “The Mother of Modern Romance”

Valentine’s Day actually has a Roman origin. According to the legend, Valentine, a Roman Saint, became the symbol of love because he performed marriages for young Christian lovers against Emperor Claudius’ rules. He was martyred on 14th February, which later became known as Valentine's Day, a holiday that represents the celebration of love.

Italy also has a lot of other specialities such as gelato, Vespa, luxury vehicles, Leonardo da Vinci, the list goes on! But one of the country’s greatest assets is its food.

Italian cuisine is one of the most popular cuisines in the world, thanks to the simplicity of its products. Whether it's juicy tomatoes, bread or mozzarella and parmesan, the ingredients used in Italian cooking are of amazing quality and their simplicity makes them easy to access and use.

The historic association between Italy and romance, plus the incredible tastes of the food, means that Italian cuisine is a go-to for many on Valentine’s Day.
